Course Description
Command and Control of Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Fire Operations is a two-day, advanced workshop designed to strengthen the leadership capacity of personnel operating in command and coordination roles within the Wildland Urban Interface.This workshop is intended for experienced and developing fire service leaders who play a role in directing, supporting, or coordinating WUI operations. Emphasis is placed on strategic interoperability – enhancing collaboration across municipal, Indigenous, and provincial agencies during complex WUI incidents.
The program blends content delivery by subject matter experts with interactive group-based learning. Participants will engage in facilitated discussions, case studies, and scenario-driven exercises that reinforce critical decision-making, command-level communication, and integration within the Incident Command System (ICS) framework. Through this collaborative format, participants will analyze real-world incidents, share perspectives across disciplines, and refine their ability to lead effective, safe, and coordinated structure defence and protection operations at the tactical and strategic levels.
Course Structure
The Command and Control of Wildland Urban Interface Fire Operations workshop is a two-day/16-hour course intended to supplement tactical skills and experience with strategic-level leadership development. Participants will actively engage in the learning process, including discussions, collaborative activities, and influencing the direction of the course.
